Chief Information Security Officer
Hemant Baidwan serves as the Chief Information Security Officer for the DHS Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
Mr. Baidwan is responsible for securing and strengthening the Department’s cybersecurity posture by implementing and managing the DHS Information Security Program and ensuring compliance with applicable federal laws, executive orders, directives, policies, and regulations. He oversees critical information security programs within DHS OCIO, including national security systems, information security policy, FISMA compliance, risk reporting, and security assessments. He has also implemented improved enterprise policies, streamlined critical IT processes and managed federal directives. Prior to his current position, Mr. Baidwan served as the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for DHS.
Mr. Baidwan has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the field of cybersecurity risk management, compliance, governance, network design, and Secure Agile application deployments in both the private and public sectors. He is extremely effective at change management and building culturally diverse and team-centered operating units with excellent business process and strategy development skills. His core strengths are establishing policies, requirements, standards, tools, and processes necessary to ensure data confidentiality, integrity and availability.
In the private sector, Mr. Baidwan held multiple senior management positions with autonomous decision-making authority for IT development and expansion issues with a focus on IT organization design, agile-based application development and management, voice and data communications, system integration, emerging technologies, enterprise architecture, data center operations, strategic alliances, and data security. Mr. Baidwan has provided award-winning design and customer support to customers worldwide and successfully expanded his business to four global locations.
Mr. Baidwan holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems. He has also completed multiple cybersecurity certifications and executive leadership training from Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University.
