When this health crisis is over, we will all have our stories to tell.  One story that could dominate all others is how leaders in the intelligence community reacted to the sudden change to remote work.  They are in a crucible where they cannot afford to miss information that would assist military and political decision-makers.

This interview details concepts by strategic visionaries like Dr. Catherine Marsh as well as to practical applications of working remotely in a secure environment from leaders in the Navy and Air Force.

IARPA is responsible for helping the intelligence community overcome difficult challenges – moving to remote work at the snap of a finger would come under this rubric.  During the discussion, Dr. Marsh indicates that this COVID-19 pandemic has brought to a clear focus the need for technology solutions.

She mentions IARPA working with MIT on innovations like the Felix Program, where they determined that the genome matched naturally occurring viruses and was not manufactured. This scientific answer had large global ramifications.

Christopher Page is challenged with helping the Navy figure out what to do in the next five minutes and the next fifty years.  One of his conclusions is that, given a remote environment, his team can assess with unclassified data better than before the start of the pandemic.

Few, if any, have documented the efforts to evacuate American personnel out of Wuhan during the start of the crisis. Colonel Barnes was part of the Crisis Action Team for that endeavor.

What a great start to his transition of being part of the Department of the Air Force COVID Task Force.  His experience in the field balanced with wearing the hat of an analyst brings a ring of authority to his comments.
