This discussion is a great perspective on transitioning to Zero Trust Architecture from the perspective of federal and state information technology leaders. They cover topics from connections to regulations to the long-term perspective of this major transformation.

Chi Kang from NOAA gave a simple three-point approach. He suggests looking at Secure Access Service Edge, Software-Defined Networking, and adoption of Identity, Credential, and Access Management.

When it comes to identity, Robert Thorne from ICE agreed that identification is starting to look like the cornerstone for managing Zero Trust Architecture.

Mary Ann Furno from Broadcom gave an example of some existing policies that will have to be altered. She states that some organizations run the risk of using shared passwords. Today’s advances in identity management can put to rest that classic way for two people to have access to the same services.

Enterprises are responding to the interest in zero-trust by developing groups that can help share best practices. John Cleveland, California gave details on the California Cybersecurity Integration Center. It is a virtual organization, mandated by state law.

In a parallel manner, the Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure Security Agency has begun the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center to distribute knowledge of best practices to implement Zero Trust Architecture.
