State and local governments are embracing AI at different speeds and with varying levels of maturity. Massachusetts, for example, has implemented ChatGPT across its entire state government workforce, providing training in its use, outreach and engagement to answer workers’ questions, while making its use voluntary.
State government employees across the country are using AI for numerous applications, without going as far as Massachusetts. Many are using AI to search complex state policies and procedures quickly. Some agencies are using it for communications support, such as drafting high-volume resident replies and translating public announcements.
